Welcome to Theraplay® Denmark

Welcome to the website of Theraplay® Denmark. We are the Danish affiliate of the Theraplay® Institute in Chicago and a member of the global Theraplay family.

Theraplay was developed over 60 years ago in Chicago and is now practiced around the world. In Denmark, neuroaffective developmental psychology has helped generate curiosity about and interest in the method, and in 2010, the Danish Theraplay training programme was launched at the initiative of psychologists Marie Olsen-Kludt and Anne Stahlschmidt. We also run Theraplay® Denmark.

The two modules that make up the Theraplay training programme are available through us. In addition, we continually offer master classes that provide additional insights into the method.

Our activities are motivated by a desire to contribute to professional development by maintaining and refining the method to ensure that it is compatible with the therapeutic and educational environment in Denmark. This effort is driven by an interdisciplinary approach and respect for differences in the participants’ professional qualifications. As head of Theraplay® Denmark, Marie Olsen-Kludt is the direct liaison to the Theraplay® Institute in the United States.

The work of Theraplay® Denmark is supported by a steering group, which currently includes Charlotte Hagmund-Hansen, Camilla Gravgaard Birkler, Anne Larsen, and Marie Colding Ngounou. All the steering group members have been involved in implementing the method in Denmark from the very beginning, and over the years, they have acquired international certification as therapists, supervisors, and trainers.

The steering group has an important task in preserving and developing the method to ensure that it maintains its unique and particular approach to and understanding of vulnerable children, young persons, and families while providing optimal conditions for members of different professions to develop their mastery of the method through training and certification.
